Rear Brake Issue

My rear brake does not seem to be working correctly. It seems I have to put way too much pressure on it to get it to slow down a little bit. It feels like the rear brake is drum brakes after going through a big puddle. It is no where close to how my ninja 09 250r felt. I tried a friends dr650 rear break at it feels simular to my ninja. My friend tried my bike and he also thinks something is wrong with it.
The weird thing is I took it to the Honda dealership and they claim it works like it supposed to. I am very weary of the dealership due to my experience with my ninja at same place.
Anybody has similar issues with the rear brake?
 
I too have noticed this. I definitely have to use both breaks to get the vehicle to slow down. I am aware that the bike has combined breaking system but just the rear brakes definitely don't stop the bike like they should. Will be interested if anyone has the same issue. My Nc has only done 300 miles.
 
I'm not sure if you went through the big puddle or not. If you did check for some foreign object lodged in there. The x in the states doesn't have linked brakes (thank god). The rear brake is never as effective as the front is.

Have you checked for air in the line? Air in your brake lines will make that brake almost non existent
 
I think that's just how they are. Given how easy it is to lock the damned thing up on wet roads, I'm glad it's not super touchy.
 
When I first got mine I thought there was something wrong with the rear brake too because it's so soft. The dealer checked it and said it worked as it's supposed to. So I guess it's just a soft brake. Conversely, I find the front brake veeeery touchy. I lock the front wheel up way too easily - gotta work on my panic reflexes more.
 
Mine has ABS and I think the brakes are a little soft too. Maybe it's just because it's different from what I'm used to. I will say that there's plenty of stopping power there, just heavier action needed to bring it out.

I don't think my NC's rear brake is any weaker than my other recent bikes, but it certainly take a good amount of pressure to provide much stopping force during 'normal' stopping.

I've always thought this was designed in because of what happens during a heavy, 'emergency' stop. If you've got a rear brake that's touchy, when you grab a handful of front brake and take all the weight off the back, the last thing you want is a rear brake that you can't control and just locks up...

I mean if you press the front brakes, some pressure is exerted on the rear brakes (thereby linked brakes).
If you press the rear brakes, are the front brakes also pressed? Personally I think not but I have been wrong before.

Any experts here? Lee or similarlee technical experts?

BTW, I seldom press the rear brakes, preferring to use the front brakes say 80% and only 20% occasional rear brakes in certain conditions (like when I remember I have rear brakes).

The exact opposite happens Pressing slightly on the rear only works the rear. Add more force and it will work the front brake slightly-to-moderately. That is how it works on the 3 pot ABS US edition. Front braking only works 2 of the 3 cylinders. You can feel this force working. Press slightly on the front brake, then press hard on the rear, you will feel the front brake become slightly easier to pull.

For the brake pad, Honda has used a sintered pad, while for the rear brake on non-combined ABS models Honda has used a semi metallic brake pad in keeping with the machines' braking characteristics to deliver a dependable braking system that works just as well whether riding about town, going long-distance touring or indulging in FUN riding.

might want to try a sintered brake pad on the rear for non-ABS models?
 
the rear brake is spongy but i just use the front mostly and the rear to stop as used together the stopping power of the combined abs is sooo good had to stop on a dime a few times due to muppets pulling out!
