    Another thing you NEED to know. They are stainless steel u-bolts and a stainless cap nut. You need to lube these or else they will gall when you try to take them off and the nut won't come off and it will snap. Trust me I know! You will need to take the right side U-bolt off when you do your valve checks. Otherwise the plastic threaded plug on the engine block can't unscrew enough to remove. I now have steel u-bolts and they are lubed with anti-seize. Bought at Fastenal and the bolt length cut to correct length with a hacksaw and the nut at the right length so the threads don't get messed up. The other bike has stainless and I lubed that with anti-seize and no problems. Learned on the first bike.

    Thanks for the tips! We've already had to bend them back twice due to my continual slow dumps in the dirt and gravel. I assume they are designed to bend back so they don't grab the pavement during a major laydown.

    What is the best method for bending them back? Remove them and pound the flat steel straight or us a strong winch strap connected to an anchor point?

    Something to think about... if you lower the front and get your headlight correct you may be able to raise the rear a bit. Also you are probably blinding oncoming traffic... and that could be bad news for you if they come over the center line!

    Could you provide a link for the same exact Spirit Airlines Tote? I too have the Tusk Large Panniers and love them but need a bag for each to make camping easier. Thanks!!

    Wife on her 700 and me on my 750 plan a large ride next year from Upstate NY to Tenn then family in NC then back home via ocean city MA.
    Did you have to adjust chain at all ?

    Chains are ok to run a bit looser than tighter, as long as you make sure chain tension is set properly at the beginning of the trip, it should be fine throughout the trip. Unless you just put on a new chain and it hasn't broke in yet. New chains will "stretch" within the first few hundred miles, but if it's been on for a little while and in good shape, should have no need to adjust chain during trip.

    I put an auto oiler on my daughters NC700X and on my CBR 1100XX. After the new chain stretched I adjusted it just before my trip. At 4000 miles I cleaned it and checked the adjustment and it was fine. 3000 miles later when I got home I cleaned it again and still fine. I believe in auto oilers now!
    I bought the "Cameleon Plus" it is everything I wanted and two years later I have no complaints and only praises for it. Webike.com has a good review on it I believe.
    Stock chain may have to be adjusted. The DID Gold chains don't seem to wear as much.

    Question Kickstand and question about raising the bike up

    Sounds like a great trip. I have a few questions:
    - Did you have to modify the kickstand after lowering the bike 3 inches?
    - you said you were going to raise it up an inch. Why is that? Did you find the handling of the bike difficult after lowering or was there some other concern?
    - How long have you been riding?
