I looked "nationwide" (as ZZtop would say), and the best price, used, was $2,994.00 (4,898 miles on it).

OK... I'll give it another try. I know that to post here effectively, you have to start a post, save it, edit it, save it.... repeat, so lets start with this. I'll edit this post as I go, so...

Yep, too bad there's no cheaper alternative.
someone should really post something about cheaper rack arms and top boxes.
might come in handy.
Concur. DiD VX2 chain and JT sprockets buy me about 12,000 miles each time. I do the work myself, and I'm NO mechanic.
seems like it should slide on snugly... but it doesn't.
it seems to have more gaps between splines after 124K miles, but I am NO kind of mechanic. Plan to ask mine to inspect it.
Seems like it...
The clutch was an emergency repair , soo.... it was $400 at the Harley Dealer, (only dealer I could find), and it's made a "funny" noise when you coast in gear ever since.
I hope to replace it...

starting to worry that the drive sprocket mount is wearing out... not sure what it would cost to replace it, but other than a clutch at 80K, I've had NO major repair.
Great bike!

Fully loaded for camping/touring (and with an aging over-weight rider), my NC gets 180 miles on a tank.
I've done both: long rides cross country and camping.
I live 50 miles north of you in Wine Country.
Here's hoping you get your NC!
I use "TomTom GO" because it loads the map for the entire US when you install it.
It runs on an old cell phone that can't make calls. Live traffic is $20 a year.
it's not especially difficult to wire a (fused) line from the battery to a "car power" outlet on the handlebars. I put a usb adapter in that, and the gps and cell phone charge while i'm riding.
I have been across the US on an NC. (San Diego to Jacksonville), and other long rides. (Calif to Omaha)
Suggestions:
- 300 to 500 miles a day max (gives you time to set up / take down camp in the...
I wish! The 2012 Model doesn't have that. I much prefer 24 hr clocks.
Hopefully, to add to the discussion, ....[HERE] is the cot I carry for camping. I put the air mattress on top of it, so even if the air mattress goes flat, I still have the cot.
It packs down...
yes, 2nd that. The seat and windscreen should be the first replacements.
In my case, Sargent seat and lexan home made.
Does the 2016 (updated) model have proper bolts holding the wind screen...

I wanted wide beam on the front with an on/off switch. [HERE] is what worked for me. Cheap and DIY.
Attached pegs directly to the frame. Great height and distance. Didn't Cost much.
