    Lost keys for NC700SA

House was burgled and they managed to find my key stash, so i've lost the "original" spare key plus the little alloy tag that had the 8 numerals on it. 2012 SA model (means it's got ABS but not DCT)

Honda dealer here says I have a big problem and ignition control unit plus security whatsit will have to be replaced.

Found a previous post - Does anyone have the key code for the 2012???

What is my situation and has anyone any answers. Live in a small rural town and would have to go to Brisbane 250kms away to get dealer to check vin no, if this is part of the solution

The thread below talks about HISS system that I believe is used outside of North America. I would start with talking with your local locksmith. You may end up having to go the dealer route

    Programming new key - HISS

    Yes, that's it.
Bike is fitted with HISS security system and that's the problem according to HONDA dealer (who quoted $2800 to replace stuff to get bike running again). This is why the locksmith won't touch it.

I think you're missing the point, if it's a newer Honda it will have H.I.S.S. As DSA pointed out you need the barrel changing as well as the CDI unit, there's no point taking it to a Locksmith as it's a transponder key so it still won't start without bodging the electrics.

A while ago I saw a thread on a Brit forum where an owner lost his keys and was quoted 1800 pounds to 'fix'
but this is quite an informative thread Lost keys and honda - Bike Chat Forums

Read the thread you supplied link to. Think I will have to familiarize myself with system so that I know ALL options.

Bike was garaged elsewhere (but keys at home). That's why it wasn't stolen.

I have no experience with them but these guys in the Netherlands claim to able to replace lost keys:
Honda : Carmo Electronics - Motorbike parts or electronics

You would need to send them your ECM/ECU-unit and roughly 430 NZ dollars. There's probably other companies closer providing similar services.

Thanks Harvey for that good info.

    Hahaha.

Last year I decided I needed a spare key and that ended up costing me what I felt was a ridiculous amount of money. Bought the key from Honda, took it to a locksmith to get cut, then back to Honda to make it work! Hope you can find a better option.

Did you get this fixed werewasi? I expect this might be too late, but there is a wreckers in Western Australia with some gear, including an ignition switch and keys. Seems too expensive, but having replaced a key myself, maybe it isn't.
