My daughter is working in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon as was) and I will visit her in February. She would not go near a bike in Britain but it is the default mode of travel in Vietnam, so she and I thought we might attempt a motor bike tour while I am there, perhaps starting from HCMC and up the East coast adn then inland for while before heading back. There are companies which organise this sort of thing but they look pretty expensive. SHould I take a chance on hiring a bike and the two of us just setting off? Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing?

So many beautiful places to see in Viet Nam, wish I was going with you! Please!

See this post, as it might help you find a bike.

Best road bike to rent in Vietnam?

Also, being your daughter lives in Viet Nam, can purchase a bike or scooter and resale once you leave.

Well we did a short road trip from Hue to Hoi An, which is not the country's finest scenery, but we were happy with our day out and count it an experience for a couple of novice riders. I have realised though, that I jumped the gun buying an NC700, where I could probably manage with a Yamaha Nouvo
