Stars only in NEUTRAL

Starts only in NEUTRAL

RE: My new-to-me NC700X

I have never had a bike that will only start while in NEUTRAL. Is this some defect in my bike? What should I look for?

If the kickstand is down it will only start in neutral. Also check the connectors on the end of the clutch handle. I’ve knocked it loose before and then the bike will only start in neutral even if the kickstand is up.

Your bike will only start if it's in Neutral, or your clutch lever is pulled in while in a gear.

This is normal, and relates to a Neutral safety switch on the NC700X to prevent you from starting it in gear.

Both wires up at the clutch switch had become disconnected. That was it!
Starts in any gear now.

That one has happened to a few of us. They are easy to unplug.
