Is it a place you'd be willing to park your NCX for a night or two (at a hotel)? Would the ride down & up the coast highway be pretty/interesting/worth it (the potential 'security' risk of leaving the NCX outside at the hotel)?

I _may_ be able to take the bike there for a work trip later this fall, so thought I'd ask what you all thought. I've never been to that part of Mexico. Might be nice to get a little fishing in with a friend, offshore.

Thanks for any experiences or thoughts.

Been to ensenada by boat. I launched my hydrasport from san diego and traveled by water to ensenada. The marina is very nice and I stayed around the hotel. Was fishing in a tournament down there.

I would be cautious if you bring your bike. Also, you may want to research on insurance to see if your policy will be honored.

No USA company gives you Mexico coverage. Must call your agent to add the coverage, or can buy in most boarder towns before entering Mexico.

Hadn't thought about (recollected? Did I know this?) insurance. That's a deal-breaker in this instance.
Thanks, guys.

If you take your bike to any area you are concerned over it's security, take a cover with you... sometimes just covering it and making it out of site will do a great deal in keeping it secure.

My experience taking a car to Rosarito (near Ensenada) was that buying insurance from AAA in the states was simple and much cheaper than it would have been in Mexico. It wasn't very much money.

I have not ridden south of the boarder, but I have driven and flown by private plane. There are lots of places just off the freeway that sell Mexican insurance for border crossings. I think we used to pay something like $15 or $20 for coverage for the car/SUV on those trips. I would imagine they sell MC insurance too. If you want to pursue this I can check on that detail for you.

The main highway from Tijuana to Ensenada is a nicely maintained (by Mexican standards) divided highway. It is a toll road, and I'm not sure what the current toll is. You'll want to have some $1's readily available for the toll booths. At the toll booths there are bathrooms too, so they make a nice place to stop and stretch.

Comfort level leaving the bike in Ensenada is a personal subject thing. I think the bike cover (rattier the better) would be reasonable.

If you do go, about 30 miles south of the border (perhaps half way to Ensenada) is little sea side village called Puerto Nuevo. They are famous for their lobster dinner restaurants. Used to be very reasonably priced and oh so yummy. Definitely worth stopping there for lunch or dinner on the way to or from Ensenda. When we used to make regular trips down there Puerto Nuevo was our destination -- didn't bother going to Ensendada too often.

AdamW is correct, the price is not very much for Mexico. You can call your agent he will add endorsement to your current policy or purchase it through AAA or sanbornsinsurance.com.

At the Horizons Unlimited meeting those who traveled to Mexico took their bikes into the hotel and it was accepted to park it in hallway, room or lobby. The favorite type hotel in Mexico for them were the ones renting by the hour as each room has a private fenced in area allowing guests to hide their vehicle which works great for protecting your motorcycle. One individual who had just returned from Mexico spent some time straddling my NC trying to decide how difficult it would be to get up steps into hotels.

and what sort of hotel rents by the hour? hmmm...
I went into Ensenada once only because our youngest daughter wanted to see the downtown. I had a choice: escort her or let he go alone. I would not go back.
(but I'm violating the "grandma" rule about..."if you don't have something nice to say....")

Dude, your cell phone insurance will not even cover crossing country lines...lol

I have been many, many times. I used to go down on surfing trips and partying every few weeks. However, after being kidnapped and robbed by the local police, driven around for hours, beat up, and left in a dirty, dark alley full growling stray dogs and homeless people burning trash cans to stay warm, I have NEVER RETURNED.... AND I WILL NEVER RETURN TO MEXICO... that is the dirtiest, most corrupt, disgusting country I have ever been to, and that was the scarriest, worst experience of my life.

There is plenty of nice coast riding, and surfing, NORTH of the border.....

The end.....
