My new UClear Pulse Plus helmet speakers sound great, but they're a bit thick. When inserted into my Nolan N-104 flip-up helmet, I could feel them pressing against my ears. So I cut a same-width wood dowel to wedge (with high pressure) between the ear cutouts in the helmet. It was so tight I could pick up the helmet by the dowel. I left it in overnight, which compressed the helmet material underneath the ear cutouts. The next morning I re-inserted the UClear helmet speakers. Result: They fit without discomfort. :)

I would think the extra clearance comes from compressing the helmet shell material which is what you want to happen during an accident. Haven't you basically reduced the amount of energy able to be absorbed by the helmet during an impact?
